Pressure on Dayanidhi Maran to quit?

Pressure builds on union textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran to quit over his alleged role in the 2G scam. Sources have told TIMES NOW that the former telecom minister is likely to meet union finance minsiter Pranab Mukherjee later today. In the meantime, the JPC on 2G spectrum has said it will ask the minister to depose before it.

Charges against Maran - the Shivraj Patil report:

  1. The clarifications sought besides being vague, were also irrelevant for consideration of application for grant of UASLs
  2. Ascertaining of show cause notices/advisory letters was not warranted in terms of laid down procedure
  3. On 14 June 2005, DoT desired to know if the case (Dishnet in Bihar) was approved by Minister. This note goes on to state that despite availibility of spectrum, DoT did not clear allocation because there was no go ahead by Maran
  4. No justification for delay in approval for allotment of initial spectrum despite availability.

Fracas at JPC meet over Maran

Meanwhile, there was a fracas during the JPC meeting when DMK leader T R Ballu objected to the CBI director mentioning Maran's name during his deposition.

The irked DMK leader questioned CBI Director as to why he is bringing up Maran's name. T R Baalu told the CBI, "If you want to investigate, go ahead but don't rake up Maran's name."

CBI Director was giving details of the 2G scam probe when Dayanidhi Maran was telecom minister.
